1. Sunny Health & Fitness Rolls Out AI Fitness Coach 2.0
Sunny Health & Fitness has officially launched AI Fitness Coach 2.0within its free SunnyFit app, enhancing personalization and integration with its connected fitness equipment. The new version adapts workout plans over time, offering alternatives, modifications, and progress tracking to boost long-term engagement. Users begin by answering a short set of questions about their goals, schedule, and equipment access, after which the AI recommends programs designed by certified trainers. The platform links seamlessly with Sunny’s treadmills, bikes, rowers, ellipticals, and strength machines, ensuring performance data and progress are easily tracked. Sunny has confirmed that it will continue expanding the app’s movement library and customization features. The update is now available on both iOS and Android.
2. Giant Ideas Acquires Mayweather Boxing + Fitness and KickHouse
Utah-based Giant Ideas, LLC has acquired Mayweather Boxing + Fitnessand KickHouse, adding them to its Legends Boxing portfolio to form what it calls the largest skill-based fitness network in the industry. The company now oversees more than 70 studios worldwide but plans to focus on operational excellence and franchisee support rather than aggressive expansion. The deal comes at a turbulent time for Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, which has faced multiple franchise closures and lawsuits in recent years. While the brands will maintain distinct identities, Giant Ideas intends to streamline back-end systems, enhance franchisee tools, and strengthen coach development programs. CEO Rob Scott emphasized building sustainable operations over rapid unit sales, highlighting a “skill-based fitness” philosophy that rewards consistency and community engagement.
3. Jeremy Buendia Opens Stoik Gym in California
Four-time Mr. Olympia men’s physique champion Jeremy Buendia has launched Stoik Gym in Roseville, California, combining advanced strength training equipment with recovery spaces and community features. Partnering with equipment supplier Skelcore, Buendia curated a lineup of machines not widely available in Northern California, including assisted Nordic hamstring curls and bent-over linear rows. Stoik also introduces unique membership standards: minors under 18 must maintain a 3.0 GPA and pass an interview with parents present. Buendia says the concept is designed not only for bodybuilders and influencers but also for general fitness enthusiasts, aiming to create a disciplined and supportive fitness community that members can proudly represent.
4. Matrix Fitness (UK) Appoints Danny Melling as National Key Account Director
Matrix Fitness UK, part of Johnson Health Tech, has appointed Danny Melling as its new National Key Account Director. With over 20 years of industry experience, including a recent leadership role at ukactive, Melling will focus on strengthening partnerships, aligning growth strategies, and enhancing support for key accounts. His appointment reflects Matrix Fitness’s commitment to expanding its market presence in the UK through client-focused strategies and leadership investment. Managing Director Matthew Pengelly noted that Melling’s background in business development and partnership management will be instrumental in driving future opportunities. The brand is also hiring an additional key account manager to further support nationwide growth.
5. LA Fitness Supports Presidential Fitness Test Revival with Free Teen Access
Fitness International, parent company of LA Fitness, has announced free gym access for high school students this fall, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s executive order to reinstate the Presidential Fitness Test. The initiative will allow teens aged 16 and above to use select gyms after school and on weekends during the 2025–2026 academic year. Pilot programs will begin in September, with plans for broader expansion. While details of the updated test remain unclear, past versions evaluated sit-ups, push-ups, and shuttle runs. Fitness International said the initiative reinforces its commitment to youth health and wellness, aligning with national efforts to combat declining physical fitness levels among Gen Z.
6. Sender One Buys Los Angeles Climbing Gym Facility
Southern California operator Sender One has acquired the property of its Los Angeles (LAX) climbing gym, partnering with Kachuwa Impact Fund to secure a 15-year lease and long-term community presence. The LAX gym, opened in 2017, is among the tallest climbing facilities in Southern California, featuring a 60-foot rope wall called The Torch. With climbing projected to grow into a $7.72 billion market by 2029 (Technavio), Sender One’s move highlights the increasing value of climbing gyms as both fitness centers and community hubs. CEO Alice Kao emphasized that the acquisition ensures the facility remains a cornerstone for connection and wellness while aligning with Kachuwa’s mission-driven investment approach.
7. Apple Fitness+ Partners with FuturHealth to Support GLP-1
UsersFuturHealth, a weight-loss program provider offering GLP-1 medications, has partnered with Apple Fitness+ to provide its members access to thousands of workouts and meditations at no extra cost. The initiative aims to help patients using GLP-1s incorporate exercise, particularly strength training, to avoid muscle loss during treatment. FuturHealth operates with more than 350 providers across 48 U.S. states and has served over 1.5 million patients. The deal follows recent FuturHealth announcements, including new payment options through Affirm and a partnership with Valisure to enhance medication quality assurance. Analysts estimate that the rise of GLP-1 treatments could represent a $6.8 billion opportunity for gyms and fitness studios in the United States.
8. Vietnam Sport Show & Vietnam Cycle Expo 2025 Announced
The Vietnam Sport Show and Vietnam Cycle Expo was hold for their 10th editions from August 14–16, 2025, at the SECC in Ho Chi Minh City. Organized by VINEXAD with support from VAMOBA, the twin events are expected to host more than 450 booths and attract over 15,000 visitors from 15 countries. Exhibits includes sportswear, fitness equipment, outdoor products, bicycles, e-bikes, and mobility solutions, with a focus on green innovation. Concurrent activities feature product launches, forums on AI and smart training, and business matchmaking sessions. Positioned as Southeast Asia’s leading sports and cycling trade shows, the events continue to grow in scale and international participation, offering strong opportunities for global and Chinese fitness brands seeking market expansion.
